Today, the concept of forest product is defined as wood obtained from forests and by-products other than wood. All kinds of plant and animal products other than wood raw material, main source of which is the forest, are called non-wood forest products (NWFPs).
Medicinal plants considered as NWFPs and grown in forests and clearings in forests constitute important raw materials of the pharmaceutical industry, and the synthesis of the active ingredients of many drugs is made by using chemical substances obtained from these plants.
