Forest108 / Forest Pests and Control Methods
Forests, which are an extremely important asset for human beings, are faced with many harmful factors which can be grouped as biotic and abiotic.
Biotic: Fire, abuse, illegal cutting, grazing, settlements, pollination, insects, fungi, mistletoe, mice, etc.
Abiotic: Wind, storm, snow, hail, lightning, high and low temperature, climate changes, etc.
According to the latest scientific research, it has been determined that an average of 9 million hectares of forest areas are destroyed annually around the world, and harmful insects are the leading cause of this, apart from human interventions. It is known that more than 50 types of pests are effective in these destructions in the forests of Turkey. In the fight against forest pests, thanks to the technological developments, more effective control methods have been applied over time and attention is paid to the protection of biological diversity. In addition, predatory and parasitoid insects reproduced in the laboratory environment are used to combat harmful insects biologically, taking into account the continuity of the forest ecosystem.
